About Joey's

A trained Joey Scout Leader guides a Joey Mob of up to 20 boys and girls as they learn to share and care for each other in a social environment.

It’s more than school as it extends each child’s understanding of the world around them.
Joeys learn how to recognise native birds and animals and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.

Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities. Building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, growing plants from seedlings or singing songs together all develop a strong sense of belonging.

Joey Scouts are taught to jump in and help other people and to share with their friends.

They wear the Joey Scout National Uniform and Group Scarf so everyone knows they are Joey Scouts.

They enjoy visits to special places such as the local fire station or the zoo and visitors to their meetings create more excitement.

Joey Scouts go on adventurous activities and face challenges in a safe, non-threatening way with the support of Leaders and their Mob.

Joey Scouts go camping with their Mob and a Parent or care giver and sometimes all the Joeys in the state on a Hoporee or State camp.

Joey Scouts usually meet once a week, usually for an hour, in a local Scout Hall or community hall.

The Joey Scout Leaders, who undertake special training, may be a parent of one of the Joeys and will have an Assistant Leader to help them.

Joey Scouts, as part of Scouts Australia, is a multicultural, multi-faith organisation, which focuses on the development of the whole child as a member of our society.

More than anything, Joey Scouts is about having fun!

Every activity is designed to ensure that the Joey Scout goes home happy and fulfilled from their time as part of the Mob. It’s for active boys and girls who like having fun and making friends.

The programs in Joey Scouts emphasise co-operation and participatory learning.
